As we pass through the Spring Equinox – that time every March that marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator and we really start the feel the light returning – I find myself reflecting a lot on the necessity for balance in life: balance between work and play, balance between inner and outer, light and dark, fast and slow.
I have just returned from a magical few days in An Daingean (Dingle) in Co. Kerry where I had the privilege of a few precious hours watching Fungi the dolphin – and such a sense of balance was personified by this beautiful creature as he explored his Dingle Bay kingdom. Sometimes he surfaced with gentle grace, sometimes he exploded out of the water with what seemed like explosive joy, then he might disappear for a while and surface somewhere else, every sighting gifting me with a sense of awe and wonder and gratitude for such a manifestation of natural majesty and grace.
Precious moments, that connected me deeply to the gift that is this life, in all its many shades of light and dark….the eyes to see, the heart to feel, the mind to appreciate, the time to step out from the noise and haste and just be.
The words of His Holiness the Dalai Lama came to mind as I appreciated such a lovely experience:
‘Today I am fortunate to have woken up.
I have a precious human life.
I am not going to waste it.’
His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama
Thank you Fungi for the reminder!!
