Singing for the Dalai Lama and more…
Spring greetings to you all!
What a joy to feel the light returning and see the bulbs shooting up everywhere 🙂 I was down on the beach this morning with my wee dog, Luna, and enjoyed watching the gannets dive into crystal clear turquoise water as I felt the softness of Spring in the air – it is a much appreciated blessing after the harshness of the winter just passed. There lots of exciting things unfolding at the moment that I am delighted to share with you…
I am just back from a week in New York working with some gifted musicians, sound engineers and filming geniuses. I was blessed to have the chance to spend a day doing improvisational performance/recording in the beautiful Church of the Holy Redeemer in East village, which was an inspiration – and great fun for all involved! Churches have long been one of my favourite places to sing…probably because of the beautiful acoustic that they provide…which makes everything so effortless and free. I really look forward to sharing some of the footage from this lovely day with you soon.
On this side of the Atlantic there are exciting things happening too – Davey Arthur and I are hatching plans to launch our album Common Ground and do some touring together later in the year (more details to follow). You can currently order a sneaky copy or download from my website, or listen to samples!
Myself and my gifted colleague Robbi McMillen will be doing 2 lovely concerts in Malahide, Co. Dublin as part of National Music Day on April 8th. Details of these events can be found in the events section of my website and at www.lovelivemusic.ie. Robbi is a truly gifted singer and songwriter and I am really excited to have this chance to work with him on this side of the Atlantic having toured with him on the Spirit Seeking tour in the US last November.
I have been smiling from ear to ear since last week when I got a call to ask if I would sing for His Holiness the Dalai Lama when he comes to Ireland in April (see www.solasbhride.ie for details). Having attended his teachings in both Bodhgaya(India) and London and read many of his books (The Art of Happiness is a wonderful one!), His Holiness has long been an inspiration in my life and it will be a huge honour and privilege for me to sing for him in Kildare on April 13th.
May the road rise with you all and I will be in touch again soon,
Slán agus beannacht,
Fionnuala
